Miami’s Only Micro-Brewery Celebrates Anniversary

March 20, 2009 by Group

titanicrestKevin Rusk, restaurateur and owner of TITANIC Restaurant & Brewery, can hardly believe it’s been 10 years since he opened his doors to a public looking for something different.  What he delivered certainly was – a combination of a microbrewery, seafood restaurant and showcase for live entertainment. While other microbreweries in Miami have come and gone since April 1999, TITANIC’s first month in business, TITANIC, located at 5813 Ponce de Leon Boulevard next to the UM baseball field, is the only one remaining today.

“After 10 years, I believe we have become a staple on the Miami dining and nightlife scene – a destination for beer lovers who also want great food,” said Rusk. “We are so much more than a bar, and that is why we have outlived our competition.  Since we focus on the menu items as much as the microbrewery, guests come back because they get the best of both.”

And both are exactly what is being served up in a series of tasty and thirst-quenching offerings during the month of April, beginning with “Celebration Day” on April 1.*

While TITANIC’s clientele remains local, its recognition goes far beyond Coral Gables and surrounding communities.  The microbrewery has won national and international awards for its beers, most notably the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup. “Our certified brewmaster Steve Copeland is so conscientious about all the intricate details of brewing science and that is what makes winning the awards possible,” said Rusk. “We work hard together every day to ensure that we are putting out excellent products. I think there is more to brewing than most people realize!”

An additional aspect that sets TITANIC apart is that it is one of very few live music venues in town. Since the restaurant bar wants entertainment to go beyond a jukebox or a game on TV, Rusk books local and national bands every Friday and Saturday; has karaoke on Sundays; and holds “Blues Jam” on Wednesdays. “I just want people to have a positive experience when they walk in our door – I think that goal has really been the secret to our success,” concluded Rusk.
