Miami Beach pet owners can dress up their dogs and cats for a free Halloween-themed celebration at Flamingo Park on Tuesday, Oct. 20, featuring a pet costume contest, live music and complimentary veterinary services.
The city's Spooky Yappy Hour runs from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Flamingo Park, 1200 Meridian Ave. Activities include free pet caricatures, a pet clothing swap, guest speakers, treats for pets and their owners, and a workshop on turning discarded materials into dog toys, according to the city's official event listing.
The event is free and open to the public.
Pet costumes meet Biscayne Bay conservation
Beyond the Halloween festivities, Spooky Yappy Hour will highlight environmental conservation and the importance of protecting Biscayne Bay.
Attendees can visit water quality education stations, learn about local environmental issues and pledge to help protect the bay.
The event is part of the city's broader sustainability outreach, which includes its We Love Biscayne Bay initiative and Rising Above climate resilience program.
The pet clothing swap and dog toy upcycling workshop also encourage residents to reuse materials rather than discard them.
Free veterinary services available until 4:30 p.m.
Miami-Dade County Animal Services will bring its Wellness on Wheels Mobile, known as the WOW Mobile, to the event to provide free preventive veterinary care for dogs and cats.
The mobile clinic will be available during Spooky Yappy Hour until 4:30 p.m., two hours before the festivities end.
Services offered through the program include rabies vaccinations, microchipping, deworming and a one-month supply of flea and tick prevention.
Dogs may also receive DHPP vaccinations, while cats may receive FVRCP vaccinations, according to a Sept. 22 city announcement.
Services are available on a walk-in basis, subject to the clinic's capacity and eligibility requirements.
The WOW Mobile began operating at Flamingo Park on Sept. 28, marking the program's first deployment in South Beach after several years of service in North Beach.
"After several successful years in North Beach, I'm thrilled that we are bringing these free services to South Beach for the first time," Commissioner Laura Dominguez said in the city's announcement.
Mobile pet clinic continues through December
Residents who cannot attend Spooky Yappy Hour can visit the WOW Mobile during its regular weekday schedule.
The clinic is stationed behind the Flamingo Park basketball courts at 13th Street and Michigan Avenue through Dec. 23.
Free walk-in services are offered Mondays through Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a lunch closure from noon to 1 p.m.
The clinic will also be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.
Spooky Yappy Hour is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Flamingo Park. The veterinary clinic's participation ends at 4:30 p.m.
Additional event details are available through the City of Miami Beach calendar.
