A free mobile veterinary clinic opens Monday, Sept. 28, at Flamingo Park in Miami Beach. Miami-Dade Animal Services will station its Wellness on Wheels clinic behind the basketball courts at 13th Street and Michigan Avenue through Wednesday, Dec. 23.

The fully equipped clinic, known as the WOW Mobile, will operate Mondays through Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m. It is closed Thursdays through Sundays and on county holidays.

A grand opening ceremony is set for 10 a.m. that morning. Vice-Mayor Laura Dominguez and Miami-Dade County District 5 Commissioner Vicki Lopez are partnering with Animal Services on the deployment, according to the city's event listing.

No appointment is needed.

Services are free for owned dogs and cats on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. The clinic offers physical exams, wellness vaccines and boosters, deworming, flea and tick prevention and microchipping, according to a Miami-Dade County press release. Veterinarians on the WOW Mobile can also refer pet owners to low- or no-cost spay and neuter surgeries and specialist appointments not available on the mobile unit.

The county describes the program as targeting communities it calls "veterinary deserts," areas where residents lack easy access to affordable pet care. The WOW Mobile stays at each location for at least three months.

The Friends of Miami Animals Foundation funds the clinic through a vehicle donation and grant money. The foundation's website says the program is in year two of a three-year commitment between the foundation, Animal Services and Miami-Dade County.

The clinic will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, for Columbus Day and Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day. Residents can call 311 or follow @adoptmiamipets on social media for updates.
