Miami native Johnnie Walker will perform a free concert at Lummus Park on Sunday, Oct. 18, as part of the weekly Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series.

Walker takes the stage at 6 p.m. at 14th Place and Ocean Drive. The show runs until 7:30 p.m. Attendees can bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs to claim a spot on the grass.

Walker grew up in Miami and in church, according to Soul of Miami. He studied theater at Miami Dade College, where he earned an associate degree, then completed a bachelor of fine arts at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

While in Philadelphia, he reconnected with his musical roots and returned to Miami's music scene alongside his cousin Roosevelt Collier. He went on to form WalkerTown with his brother Big E of The Leeboys.

Walker now performs regularly on Virgin Voyages cruise ships with The Leeboys and plays locally with WalkerTown and MaddJazz. With MaddJazz, he has recorded covers including "Tennessee Whiskey" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," according to his Litus Music booking profile. His band's motto: "anywhere you find a beat."

If rain moves in, the concert shifts inside The Betsy Hotel.

The Ocean Drive Improvement Association runs the Promenade Music Series in partnership with the City of Miami Beach. The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau also underwrites the weekly program. Beyond concerts, the series features visual art fairs, literary events, wellness activities and culinary programming each Sunday in Lummus Park between 14th Street and 14th Place.

No admission fee or registration is required.
