The board that oversees retirement benefits for Miami Beach's sworn firefighters and police officers holds its next public meeting on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 8:30 a.m., according to the city's events calendar.
The Miami Beach Fire and Police Pension Board will meet in hybrid format at the Fire and Police Pension Office, 1111 Lincoln Road, Suite 801. Residents who cannot attend in person can join via Zoom (Meeting ID: 86129466396#) or by phone at 305.224.1968 or 861.2946.6396.
The session is scheduled to run until 10:30 a.m. No agenda has been publicly posted as of Thursday, Aug. 6.
The pension fund, established in 1945, provides lifetime retirement benefits to sworn firefighters and police officers employed by the city. Executive Director Donna Brito leads day-to-day operations, according to a third-party pension profile. The board includes firefighter and police officer representatives.
The board last met on Thursday, July 16, also in hybrid format at the same Lincoln Road office.
Recent pension changes
The Miami Beach City Commission passed ordinances in February and March 2026 amending the police and fire pension system. The changes added a definition for Police Management Employees and adjusted the maximum participation period for the Deferred Retirement Option Plan, which allows eligible employees to continue working while pension payments accumulate in a separate account.
The pension office has not posted an agenda for the Aug. 20 meeting, so whether those amendments will come before the board is unknown.
