Miami Beach's free outdoor movie series at SoundScape Park returns Oct. 7 for its 17th season, with 28 films lined up through late May.
The SoundScape Cinema Series opens with the biopic "Selena" at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, projected on the 7,000-square-foot wall outside the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center at 500 17th St. The season closes with "Top Gun" on Wednesday, May 26, 2027.
As we reported Wednesday, Sept. 2, the "Selena" screening is also part of the city's Hispanic Heritage Month lineup. The full season announcement, released by the city on Wednesday, Sept. 2, adds 27 more titles stretching into next spring.
Mayor Steven Meiner said in the announcement that the series has become a tradition that brings families together and enriches the city's quality of life.
October leans into Halloween season. "The Goonies" screens Oct. 14, "Casper" on Oct. 21 and "The Addams Family" on Oct. 28. The holiday classic "Elf" arrives Dec. 23.
The schedule also features new big-budget releases. "Supergirl" screens Nov. 18, and "Toy Story 5" is set for April 28, 2027. The city has announced eight titles so far; the full 28-film schedule is available on the city's website and is subject to change.
All screenings start at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, are free with no ticket required, and run rain or shine. Films include English subtitles and captions where available. SoundScape Park is the 2.5-acre city-owned green space surrounding the New World Center.
