North Beach families can mark Saturday, Oct. 24, for a free evening of salsa music, trick-or-treating and Day of the Dead festivities at Normandy Fountain.
The Normandy Fountain Business Association is hosting its seventh annual Day of the Dead Salsa Party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the fountain plaza, 7802 Rue Vendome. The City of Miami Beach announced the event on its official account Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The evening starts with trick-or-treating and prizes for kids from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m., the salsa party begins with a live performance by Paula Zuleta and her band.
Zuleta is a Colombian singer-songwriter who received a 2011 Latin Grammy nomination for best contemporary tropical album for "Mezcla Soy," according to the Latin Recording Academy.
She also leads Divas All-Star, an all-female musical group performing salsa and other Latin rhythms. Her entertainment company credits her with more than 25 years of experience in music.
The business association described the event on its website as "The Famous Fountain Fiesta," noting the salsa party features a live performance by Zuleta and her band. Unified Events is co-presenting the party alongside the association.
The Normandy Fountain area, also known as Vendome Plaza, serves as the commercial center of Normandy Isle, according to the North Beach Community Redevelopment Agency's work plan. The plaza has become a gathering spot for the neighborhood, with the business association also partnering with the Miami Film Festival for monthly movie nights at the site.
