Mexican singer-songwriter Silvana Estrada plays the Miami Beach Bandshell Sunday, carrying six Latin Grammy nominations for her self-produced album "Vendrán Suaves Lluvias."

Estrada earned nods for album of the year, record of the year, song of the year, best singer-songwriter album, best singer-songwriter song and best roots song, the Latin Recording Academy announced Sept. 16. Her single "Dime" accounts for three of those nominations, and "El Alma Mía" is up for best roots song. The 27th annual Latin Grammy Awards air live on Univision Nov. 12 from Las Vegas.

A self-produced album three years in the making

The album took three years to finish.

"I hope this can also be an example that sometimes the small projects, the independent projects, the underdogs can also reach this kind of universal stage," Estrada told Miami New Times in an interview Thursday. She said the record was self-produced and took roughly three years to reach the sound she wanted.

Estrada, who grew up in Coatepec, Veracruz, plays the Venezuelan cuatro and draws from Latin American folk, jazz and chamber music. She won the Latin Grammy for best new artist following her debut album, "Marchita." "Vendrán Suaves Lluvias" landed on year-end best-of lists from Pitchfork, NPR and the Los Angeles Times, and ranked No. 3 on Rolling Stone's list of the best Latin albums of the year, according to the Bandshell event listing.

From the Hollywood Bowl to the Bandshell

This year, Estrada has performed at Outside Lands and Bumbershoot, appeared alongside Rubén Blades at the Hollywood Bowl and made her Boston Pops debut. Miami New Times framed her Miami Beach stop as part of a broader moment for Mexican music on the global stage.

Rhythm Foundation and Escala Sonora are presenting the show. Doors open at 7 p.m., with music at 8 p.m. Tickets are $43 through Eventim.us, and the show is open to all ages. The open-air Bandshell, at 7275 Collins Ave., has a bar and food vendors on site. Municipal parking is available at 73rd Street and Collins Avenue for $2 an hour.
