Spam Allstars Headline Free Hispanic Heritage Concert at Miami Beach's Lummus Park

Miami funk and Latin fusion band Spam Allstars will headline a free outdoor concert at Lummus Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, as Miami Beach continues its Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.

The city's second annual Live En La Playa concert runs from 6 to 11 p.m. near Sixth Street and Ocean Drive, featuring live music, DJ sets, a Latin American vinyl record fair and hands-on activities. Admission is free, but advance registration is required through the city's OnStage! event page.

Spam Allstars bring Miami's Latin funk sound to Ocean Drive

Spam Allstars founder DJ Le Spam, whose real name is Andrew Yeomanson, moved to Miami in 1990 and developed the band's signature sound around what the group calls "electronic descarga."

The style combines Latin rhythms, funk, Afro-Caribbean jazz and electronic production, drawing inspiration from the improvised musical sessions that flourished in 1950s Havana.

The band built a following through a long-running weekly residency at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana before expanding to national and international performances.

"Miami's made of many, many sounds, and it always has been," DJ Le Spam told Miami Wire in an Oct. 1 preview.

Afro-Caribbean jazz group Tony & the Kings will also perform.

DJ sets between live performances will feature Aaron Brown, who performs as Mr. Brown, along with Miami Is an Island and Tiki Tumbao Records' Travis Acker and Lula Rios.

The five-hour event brings together performers representing Miami's mix of Latin American, Caribbean and electronic music traditions.

Vinyl record fair and free activities complement performances

Beyond the live performances, the Miami Is an Island Record Fair will operate a pop-up vinyl shop featuring records from Latin America and the Hispanic diaspora.

Cut and Destroy will host a free button-making station where visitors can design pins inspired by their cultural heritage.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets for the outdoor performances at Lummus Park.

Live En La Playa is part of OnStage!, Miami Beach's program offering free performances in parks and public spaces. The concert is presented in partnership with Miami Jazz Booking.

The 2026 event moves to Lummus Park from Altos Del Mar Park in North Beach, where the inaugural concert took place in 2025.

Last year's event featured Miami rock band Jacuzzi Boys and was delayed by weather.

The new location places the concert along Ocean Drive, within walking distance of South Beach restaurants, hotels and attractions.

Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner said the city's Hispanic Heritage Month programming aims to celebrate the contributions of Hispanic Americans while bringing residents together.

In a September statement, Meiner said the events are intended to "bring neighbors together and highlight the vibrancy, creativity and contributions of Hispanic Americans who make Miami Beach an even better place to live."

Salsa Fest continues celebrations Sunday

Miami Beach's Hispanic Heritage Month events continue Sunday, Oct. 11, with Miami Beach Salsa Fest at the Miami Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Ave.

The festival begins at 5 p.m. and will be hosted by singer Melina Almodóvar.

Activities include a salsa dance contest for seniors and free salsa lessons.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs annually from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

Saturday's Live En La Playa concert begins at 6 p.m. at Lummus Park near Sixth Street and Ocean Drive. Admission is free, but attendees must RSVP in advance through the city's official event page.
