Students from Miami Beach and surrounding neighborhoods got a back-to-school boost Sunday, Aug. 9, when DJ Khaled and two community organizations turned the Snipes Miami Beach store on Collins Avenue into a block party and shopping spree.
The Grammy-winning producer, a Miami Beach resident since 2018, partnered with his We The Best Foundation and the Circle of Brotherhood to take students shopping for gear for the new school year just four days before Miami-Dade County Public Schools reopen Thursday, Aug. 13.
Shameka Pierce of the Circle of Brotherhood, a Miami Beach-based community organization led by executive director Brother Lyle Muhammad, said the event addressed a real gap for local families.
"Being that we work in the community, we understand that a lot of families sometimes is struggling to provide their youth with what they need for back to school, so we're so grateful for the We The Best Foundation to support our youth and getting them to be equipped for back to school," Pierce told WSVN.
The block party stretched into the evening, with organizers framing the event around self-expression and first-day confidence. DJ Khaled posted about the day on Instagram, writing "back to school give back #MIAMI … Bless up the young" and tagging the We The Best Foundation and Snipes.

The We The Best Foundation, a Khaled family nonprofit, has previously provided scholarships and supplies to Miami-Dade students through partnerships with the school district, Get Schooled and UNICEF USA.
Sunday's event was the second major back-to-school effort on Miami Beach in as many days. Style Saves held a free backpack and supply giveaway at the Miami Beach Convention Center on Aug. 8–9, serving approximately 20,000 students through a separate set of organizers.
Families looking for scholarship information can visit wethebestfoundation.org, where the foundation lists a scholarship for graduating Miami-Dade seniors pursuing STEAM majors at accredited Florida universities.
