Miami Beach families looking for supervised activities when school lets out have a new option starting Thursday, Aug. 13, the same day Miami-Dade County Public Schools reopen for the fall semester.
Miami Beach Parks and Recreation is launching a structured after-school program for students in grades K-12 at three locations: Flamingo Park, Muss Park and North Shore Park. The city announced the program on its official social media accounts Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Activities will include games, sports, tournaments, theme events, physical fitness and specialized clubs, according to the city. The programs are described as both structured and supervised, distinguishing them from typical drop-in park use.
How to register
Families can sign up through the city's registration portal at register.miamibeachparks.com, which lists "Afterschool" as a dedicated program category. The city has not publicly stated whether the program carries a registration fee, and daily hours have not been announced in the city's social media posts.
Separate from paid fall sports
The after-school program is distinct from the city's fall youth sports registration, which opens Monday, Aug. 10 at $33 per sport for residents. It is also separate from the Teen Club offered at Nautilus Middle School and two youth centers, and from the free baseball program at North Shore Park for ages 3–14.
The department highlighted the after-school program alongside fall athletics in its Aug. 3 e-newsletter as a key offering for the new school year.
