The Miami Beach Police Department marked one year since the death of Sergeant David Cajuso on Oct. 28, remembering the 10-year veteran who was killed in a motorcycle crash.
Cajuso, 33, died Oct. 28, 2025. He was 33. Accounts of the crash differ. The Officer Down Memorial Page states Cajuso was operating his motorcycle on Interstate 75 in Hialeah around 11:35 a.m. when he was struck by another vehicle. NBC 6 South Florida reported that Cajuso crashed his motorcycle on the Gratigny interchange in northwest Miami-Dade and that he had just started his shift. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The department posted a tribute on social media, stating it would "solemnly remember and honor the sacrifice" of Cajuso, who "dedicated ten years of service to our community before tragically losing his life in a motorcycle crash." The department said Cajuso was posthumously promoted to sergeant.
Cajuso left behind his widow, Eileen Cajuso, and their three young children. The youngest was just a year old at the time of the crash.
In an interview with NBC 6, Eileen Cajuso spoke publicly for the first time about the past year. "This past year has been the most difficult year of my life," she said.
Eileen Cajuso told NBC 6 that she still has unanswered questions about the crash. She has hired an attorney to investigate the circumstances and hopes anyone who witnessed the crash or has photographs from that day will come forward with information.
The family marked the anniversary with a church service in Cajuso's honor.
NBC 6 reported that the department's support for the Cajuso family has been steady. Fellow officers have helped with tasks like decorating the family's home for the holidays and taking the children to swim lessons. "There's a lot of people … that came into our lives, and they've never let go of my hand," Eileen Cajuso told NBC 6.
The Miami Beach City Commission has listed a resolution on recent agendas to establish a recurring grant to the Miami Beach Police Athletic League in Cajuso's honor. Commissioner Tanya Bhatt sponsored the measure, which appeared on the commission's Oct. 14 agenda. The item had not been reached for a vote on at least four prior meeting dates.
