Families looking for a free weekend outing can head to the Freedom Tower on Sunday, July 12, for a day of live music, art-making and soccer-themed activities tied to the FIFA World Cup.

Freedom Family Day runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 600 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami. The Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College is hosting the event, which is open to all ages.

The lineup includes a scavenger hunt, a drop-in art station and live music. Activities tie into soccer culture, with nods to American players and the growth of Inter Miami CF, according to MOAD's event listing.

The "Unidad" exhibition

Attendees also get access to specialized tours of "Unidad: The World's Game," a two-floor exhibition created by the FIFA Museum in partnership with Miami Dade College. The show spans roughly 7,500 square feet and traces soccer's cultural impact across the globe and in the United States.

The exhibition features jerseys from all 211 FIFA Member Associations, historical artifacts, interactive trivia stations and a virtual reality experience that transports visitors to the first FIFA World Cup in 1930, according to the FIFA Museum.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, so the tournament will still be underway on Freedom Family Day. The FIFA Museum at the Freedom Tower is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the World Cup, though MOAD has not announced a closing date for the exhibition.

A landmark with deep roots

The National Park Service calls the Freedom Tower the "Ellis Island of the South" for its role as the Cuban Assistance Center from 1962 to 1974, when it helped process an estimated 650,000 Cuban refugees. The 17-story landmark, built in 1925 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 2008, reopened to the public in September 2025 after a $25 million restoration, according to Miami Dade College records.
