Free Summer Meals Available at 170 Miami-Dade Schools Through July 31

Children up to age 18 can still get free breakfast and lunch at 170 Miami-Dade County Public Schools sites through July 31, no questions asked.

The district is partnering with Florida's Summer BreakSpot program to serve meals at participating schools across the county, including sites accessible to families in Miami Beach, Surfside, Bal Harbour and Bay Harbor Islands. There are no income requirements and no registration.

One change from past years: Meals must be eaten on-site. Grab-and-go service is no longer available.

Site Locator Helps Families Find Nearby Schools

To find a nearby participating school, families can visit www.SummerBreakSpot.org, which has a live site locator. The district has not published a list specifying which Miami Beach-area schools are serving as BreakSpot locations, so the locator is the best way to confirm addresses and hours.

Two-Week Gap Looms Before School Starts

The program ends July 31. The 2026-27 school year begins Aug. 13, leaving roughly two weeks when Summer BreakSpot will not be operating and school meals have not yet started. The district has not announced any bridge program for that window.

District Earns Top Financial Reporting Honor — Again

In a separate announcement, M-DCPS said June 18 that the Government Finance Officers Association awarded the district its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.

It marks the 41st consecutive year M-DCPS has earned the certificate, which GFOA calls the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. An impartial panel judged the district's annual comprehensive financial report and found it met the association's standards for transparency and completeness.

The district's Office of the Controller also received GFOA's Award of Financial Reporting Achievement, given to the department most responsible for helping a government unit earn the certificate.

The recognition covers the district's entire $4-billion-plus operation, including local schools such as Miami Beach Senior High, Nautilus Middle and the Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center.
