A 37-year-old man climbed to fourth-floor balconies at the Eden Roc Miami Beach hotel, entered two guest rooms and made off with two containers of apple juice worth $10 before police caught him after a foot chase, according to a Miami Beach Police Department arrest report.

Patrick Lee Bryant, of northwest Miami-Dade, was charged with multiple counts of burglary following the incident early July 27 at the hotel at 4525 Collins Ave. in the Mid-Beach neighborhood. He was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of July 28.

A repeat visitor to the hotel

Hotel staff called MBPD at approximately 4:15 a.m. to report that Bryant had returned to the property and was trying to access guest rooms. Staff told officers Bryant had previously been arrested at the Eden Roc.

According to the arrest report, Bryant reached the fourth-floor balconies by climbing up to the guest rooms from below. He entered the first room and drank two apple juices. He failed to get into the second room, entered a third but took nothing, and was stopped by a locked door at a fourth balcony.

Officers found Bryant at the top of the hotel's pool terrace. He ran.

Police took him into custody after a brief foot chase during which he resisted arrest, according to MBPD.

A history of warrants and convictions

Bryant's criminal history added weight to the charges. At the time of his arrest, he had active warrants for burglary, theft and two probation violations, and authorities said he has multiple previous theft convictions. He was scheduled to complete probation on Aug. 18, less than three weeks away.

MBPD noted in the arrest report that Bryant has previously been charged as a prisoner escapee and should be considered a flight risk if released.
