Miami Beach scheduled a Special Commission meeting for Thursday, Nov. 12, to take up the Live Local Act.
The Live Local Act is a state affordable housing law that can allow qualifying developments to exceed local zoning limits. The Nov. 12 session will focus on the law and its effects on Miami Beach.
The city announced the Nov. 12 session on its official X account. The meeting starts at 3:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 1700 Convention Center Drive, third floor.
A second Special Commission meeting is set for Monday, Nov. 16, at 9 a.m. at the same location to accept election results.
The dedicated Live Local session follows a burst of commission action on the issue. On Oct. 15, commissioners approved at least eight measures targeting the law, The Real Deal reported. Those included directing the city attorney to coordinate with the city of Miami on potential legal challenges and backing Mayor Steven Meiner's push to work with other Florida mayors to lobby state lawmakers for amendments or repeal.
Nine other Live Local applications remained before the city as of The Real Deal’s Oct. 16 report. The publication said they proposed 577 income-restricted units and 697 market-rate units at sites along Alton Road, Collins Avenue, Ocean Drive and Sixth Street.
The Nov. 12 meeting is open to the public. The city's announcement included a link for residents to participate.
