Miami-Dade County Public Schools earned more Schools of Excellence designations than any other district in Florida for the 2025-26 school year, with 160 schools making the state's list.
The district's total is more than double that of Broward County Public Schools, the next-highest large urban district with 76, according to a district announcement. M-DCPS schools account for 21% of all Schools of Excellence statewide, the district said.
The State Board of Education designates Schools of Excellence under Florida Statutes Section 1003.631. To qualify, a school must score in the 80th percentile or higher among schools with similar grade configurations in at least two of the past three school years. The designation covers elementary, middle, high and combination schools.
Miami-Dade Schools said on X that the district is "No. 1 among large urban districts" in the designation. M-DCPS has earned Schools of Excellence designations every year since the program began, the district said.
M-DCPS also retained its overall "A-rated" district status. Across the state, 76% of Florida schools earned an A or B grade in 2025-26, up from 71% the prior year, according to the Florida Department of Education.
The full list of designated schools is available through the FLDOE's accountability reports page, broken out by school type. Families can download Excel files for elementary, middle, high and combination schools to check whether their child's school earned the recognition.
