Surfside residents will get their first look at a townwide street lighting improvement program and an update on speed bump materials when the Town Commission meets Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. in Commission Chambers at 9293 Harding Ave.

Acting Town Manager Mario A. Diaz is scheduled to present both items, according to the meeting agenda. The traffic calming update includes a phase two agreement with the Corradino Group for pilot program design services. The street lighting proposal, dated July 7, covers improvements across town.

The commission is also set to vote on adopting the 2025 Miami-Dade County Local Mitigation Strategy as Surfside's official Hazard Mitigation Plan. The resolution directs the town manager to apply for FEMA funds for infrastructure mitigation projects, a step that could open federal dollars for the town's resilience work.

A separate consent item ratifies a $19,316.17 expenditure to Diamonette Party Rental for the fifth annual Champlain Towers South Remembrance Event held Wednesday, June 24. The collapse of the 12-story beachfront condominium on June 24, 2021, killed 98 people.

The commission will consider a preliminary rate resolution for solid waste management services establishing the estimated assessment rate for fiscal year 2027, beginning Oct. 1, and directing a public hearing. The agenda does not list the proposed rate.

Mayor Shlomo Danzinger is scheduled to recognize the 2025-2026 Youth Council, and Commissioner Andrea Travani has sponsored a discussion to revisit the council's composition.

How to participate

The Miami-Dade County fire marshal has set a 99-person capacity limit for Commission Chambers. Once capacity is reached, attendees will be directed to watch from the first floor.

Residents who want to speak on consent agenda items must submit a speaker card to Town Clerk Sandra N. McCready before the meeting begins. Open public comment on items not on the agenda is scheduled for approximately 8:15 p.m.

Residents needing disability accommodations should contact the town clerk's office at 305-861-4863, ext. 226, by Sunday, July 12. The full agenda is available at www.townofsurfsidefl.gov.
