Bring your dog and a blanket. The Betsy Hotel, 1440 Ocean Drive, is opening its August jazz lineup to four-legged concertgoers, hosting free weekend performances throughout the month and culminating with a National Dog Day finale on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The series features two venues: The Betsy's indoor Piano Bar and outdoor Sunday concerts in Lummus Park between 14th Street and 14th Place, produced in partnership with the Ocean Drive Improvement Association and the City of Miami Beach.

Co-owner Jonathan Plutzik told Miami New Times on Monday, July 21, that the hotel's dog-friendly ethos runs deeper than a policy page.

"At The Betsy, dogs are not simply an amenity; they are important to who we are," Plutzik said. "Whether they are ours or yours, whether you are checking in or stopping by the Piano Bar, their presence makes the hotel feel less like a place you visit, and more like a home you return to."

The hotel backs that up with staff. Two golden retrievers, Betsy and Rosa, hold the title of CEO, or Canine Executive Officers, and greet guests at the Art Deco Historic District property.

Multi-instrumentalist Patricio "Pato" Romero kicks off the series Saturday, Aug. 1, with a set blending jazz and house music at the Piano Bar. Singer Amy Arlo and pianist Jaui Schneider perform the first outdoor Promenade Concert on Sunday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Lummus Park. The Haitian American Assel Jean-Pierre Trio, blending jazz, classical, Caribbean and Latin influences, follows Sunday, Aug. 9.

All events are free, with no cover charge or minimum purchase. The Piano Bar is open Sundays through Thursdays from 6 to 11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to midnight. Jazz Brunch is offered Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. If rain interrupts a Sunday concert, the performance moves to The Betsy's lobby.

The Betsy and Miami brewery House of Motor also created a signature Austrian-style copper lager inspired by the hotel's canine CEOs. The brewery describes the beer as having notes of lemon zest and allspice. It is available on-site during performances.
