The Tony Hotel at 801 Collins Avenue has sold for $16.5 million to two French hotel operators, ending 40 years of Goldman family ownership of the Art Deco hotel.
Philippe Le Guennec and Benjamin Debard, who own more than a dozen hotels in France, bought the 52-room property through an off-market deal, The Real Deal reported Tuesday, Sept. 15. The sale price works out to about $317,300 per room.
Longtime broker represented both sides of the sale
An LLC managed by Jessica Goldman Srebnick and Janet Goldman sold the property. Broker Susan Gale of Gale International at ONE Sotheby's International Realty represented both sides.
Gale said the deal took years to close because the Goldman family was not initially interested in selling. The family agreed only after finding a buyer it believed would preserve the property's character, she said.
Buyers financed deal with equity and bank loan
The buyers financed the purchase with 60% equity and a 40% acquisition loan from Interaudi Bank, according to Gale. They also leased a second building on Ocean Drive behind the hotel, adding 21 rooms to the property.
Gale said Le Guennec and Debard plan a multimillion-dollar renovation and will operate both the hotel and its restaurant. The current Wish Café will be replaced with a new concept that has not been disclosed.
The hotel sits on a double corner lot near Ocean Drive and the beach. It includes an ocean-view rooftop pool, bar and garden.
Hotel has carried three names since 1939
Goldman Properties paid $550,000 for the building in 1986, property records show. Architect L. Murray Dixon designed the hotel, originally called the Tiffany Hotel. It was renovated in 1998 and renamed the Tony Hotel in 2022 in honor of the late Tony Goldman, the Goldman Properties founder. Goldman, a historic preservationist, is credited with helping revitalize South Beach in the 1980s and '90s.
The Goldman family's holdings are now concentrated in Wynwood, making the Miami Beach hotel less central to its portfolio, Gale said.
Deal is French duo's second Miami Beach purchase
The Tony deal is the French duo's second Miami Beach hotel purchase. Le Guennec's Hotels Investment and Management Team LLC bought the 132-key Kimpton Angler's Hotel at 600 Washington Avenue for $43.5 million in December 2025, The Real Deal reported. Gale brokered that deal as well and said both sales reflect growing interest from international hotel investors in Miami Beach.
No timeline for the renovation or the new restaurant concept has been announced.
