Miami Beach dog and cat owners can get free veterinary care starting Monday, Sept. 28, when a mobile clinic parks behind the Flamingo Park basketball courts for nearly three months.

Miami-Dade County Animal Services is bringing its Wellness on Wheels (WOW) Mobile Veterinary Clinic to 13th Street and Michigan Avenue through Wednesday, Dec. 23. The program is a partnership between Miami Beach Commissioner Laura Dominguez and Miami-Dade County District 5 Commissioner Vicki L. Lopez, the City of Miami Beach said on X.

The fully equipped clinic offers vaccines, dewormer, microchipping and other wellness services for owned dogs and cats at no cost. Services are first-come, first-served until the clinic reaches capacity.

The WOW Mobile operates Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed Thursday through Sunday and on county-observed holidays, including Monday, Oct. 12, for Columbus Day and Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.

The county program targets communities it identifies as "veterinary deserts," areas with limited access to affordable pet care, according to Miami-Dade County's website. The mobile unit stays at each site for at least three months to provide consistent access. The partnership pairs a city commissioner with a county commissioner to bring the service to Miami Beach specifically.

A vehicle donation and grant funding from the Friends of Miami Animals Foundation Inc. make the program possible, the county said.

No registration is needed. Pet owners can simply show up with their dogs or cats during operating hours. Residents can call 311 or follow @AdoptMiamiPets, the social media account for Miami-Dade County Animal Services, for updates on availability and services.
